6 Year Old Steals Car, Drives to School…Almost

“This really is a story of miracles.”  This according to the Associated Press quoting North Cumberland County Sheriff Chuck Wilkins.  I tend to disagree with this statement and feel that the story which I am about to relate is one that might be better related to the word(s) “fiasco” or perhaps “totally, 100% messed up situation” rather then the word “miracle.”

In Wicomico Church, Virginia a boy of 6 years missed his school bus so what did he do?  Stole his parents Ford Taurus and drove it to school, but not before “he made at least two 90-degree turns, passed several cars and ran off the rural two-lane road several times before hitting an embankment and utility pole about a mile and a half from school.” (Source AP)

“The boy, whose name wasn’t released, missed the bus, took the keys to his family’s 2005 Ford Taurus and drove nearly six miles toward school while his mother was asleep, police said.

His parents, Jacqulyn Deana Waltman, 26, and David Eugene Dodson, 40, are each charged with child endangerment, Wilkins said. Waltman is being held without bond. Dodson was released on a $5,000 bond.” (Source AP)

Apparently the young boy was intent on getting to school so he wouldn’t miss breakfast and gym.  I defy you to find one thing that isn’t insanely messed up with this situation: 6 year old stealing a car (messed up), that car happens to be a Ford Taurus (awful cars, messed up), mother is asleep while son is trying to catch bus (messed up), boy heads off to school without having breakfast (messed up), mother is nearly half the age of father (messed up), and my personal favorite “The boy told police he learned to drive playing Grand Theft Auto and Monster Truck Jam video games.” (Source AP) A 6 year old playing Grand Theft Auto.  Why do some people have kids?  Maybe that is the most messed up thing of all.
