A Little Media Bias in Detroit? Maybe Just a Little
Well, with all that is going on in the world what should the big topic be right now? The economy? The War in Iraq? The fact that medicare and social security are going to cost us billions and leave generation Xers with nothing? No, our media would rather focus on what John McCain is driving. In what is perhaps the stupidest and most obviously one-sided news post of recent months, all the major news organizations are reporting that McCain, who states that he has been a loyal customer of American car companies, owns a Lexus, Honda, and a VW along with his primary car, a Cadillac.
Ron Gettelfinger, the President of the United Auto Workers Union, had these totally, 100%, unapollogetically, thorogly non-bias remarks regarding McCain’s other autos:
“It’s a nice campaign line, but he’s not being straight with the people of Michigan,” Gettelfinger said today in a conference call with reporters. “People are free to buy any kind of car they want, but ‘Buy American’ can’t be a slogan that he just rolls out when he’s in Michigan.” (Source: Detroit Free Press)
The fact is that the only car registered to McCain is the Cadillac, the other cars are in his wife’s name. Besides this is the fact that if Mr.Gettelfinger really wanted to help the auto workers, he would back out of the shiftless, corrupt, union game and start doing something that doesn’t kill the local economy.
The American car industry doesn’t deserve any form of bailout. It has been making irresponsible decisions for years. Consumers have decided fuel economy is more worthwhile than excess. I’m surprised it has taken this long for Japanese manufacturers to take over.
