Are Hybrid SUVs in Trouble Too?
Are people so scared of SUVs now that they really won’t go near them? While the SUV has been diagnosed with what seems to be some sort of terminal disease, the hybrid versions of SUVs aren’t totally out of the woodworks either. Sales haven’t been exactly “taking off” with SUVs overall. It seems, that for many, the SUV has given the hybrid versions a bad name.
There are many people who are somewhat reluctant to purchase hybrid versions of vehicles in general- not just with SUVs. But can you blame them? I spoke to someone recently about getting a different vehicle than the one I currently drive (I currently own a 2007 Jeep Liberty). However, when I asked them about getting a hybrid car (because I thought it would be a good investment), they advised against it. For someone like myself, who does a lot of highway driving, hybrids are not the best vehicles to get because they tend to not accelerate as fast, which can be a problem in terms of merging into high speed traffic as well as getting yourself out of sticky situations (i.e. accelerating quickly in order to avoid an accident)
Now, this is, of course, one person’s opinion…but I’m sure if you asked any number of people out there, that a good chunk of them would have reservations about purchasing a hybrid. For instance, some people feel that hybrids (much like new electronics) are fairly new to the auto market and therefore, they are still going to have “kinks” to work out. Some people don’t want to risk taking the chance with them. As for me, I’m still undecided about the hybrid SUVs and what it would mean in terms of highway driving and long term fuel-efficiency. What do you think?

The main ACTUAL problem with hybrids is that they don’t pay for themselves, unless you drive CONSTANTLY, like a taxi. for normal people’s use, like commuting to and from work, shopping, kid’s activities, and the occasional road trip, it’s a nice idea, but you won’t drive it enough to save the gas required to balance the extra cost of the hybrid technology. Want to really save money on fuel? ride a bike. Seriously.
Hybrid car’s have got such a high demand; but still there is still doubt in a person’s mind to buy them; it’s new in market.
