The Earth Day Network (the group that organizes Earth Day every year) is giving away two free Smart Cars through an online social media contest. And now, the readers of National Transport’s blog have a special opportunity to win one of these innovative, fuel-efficient cars.

One of the biggest challenges facing Americans today includes minimizing our dependence on foreign oil, and figuring out how to deal with the cost of gas. With the current economic atmosphere only exacerbating the effect of gas prices on our wallets, fuel economy is more valuable than ever – and that’s a great reason to be driving one of these free Smart Cars!

The “smart fortwo” cars, as they’re called, are the most fuel efficient, non-hybrid gasoline-powered cars in the United States today, according to the EPA. Getting about 33mpg in cities and 41 on highways, the Smart Car is definitely a viable way to soften the impact of gas prices on our budgets.

You can enter the contest by simply visiting the Earth Day Network site located at http://act.earthday.org and pledging to perform an “Act of Green.” The act can be anything in support of the environment, from pledging to plant a tree to just washing your clothes in cold water. One of the suggested acts can be selected, or you could get creative and come up with your own Act of Green. Upon entering your pledge, you’ll be automatically entered to win one of the cars.

The contest ends on December 31, 2010 and the winners will be announced on January 10, 2011. Enter today and earn a chance to win your very own Smart Car!
