Consumer Reports Names Most Economical Cars
Consumer Reports has named it’s most economical vehicles for 2009. In a sad note for US automakers, they are not represented be even a single car on the list. That’s 0 for 41 for those of you counting. Not to break off into a different subject, but this could be part of the reason that US car companies struggle! When not a single car that you make is viewed as economical you are going to struggle to move units, but I digress…
The car that came in at the top spot of most economical vehicles is the Toyota Prius Touring. Even though it did not have the lowest sticker price, it still was viewed as having the most bang for the buck. According to http://abcnews.go.com/ price wasn’t the only concern for Consumer Reports:
“A low price doesn’t necessarily make a car a good value,” Rik Paul, automotive editor at Consumer Reports said in a statement. “At a time when people need to make every dollar count, our best value list will help consumers understand the difference.”
ABC said that the “Mini Cooper, Volkswagen Rabbit, Honda Civic EX and the Honda Fit” were also high on the list. It was also stated that, even though they did receive improved marks, US car companies did not fair very well overall. Apparently Chrysler was the car company that “disappointed the most.” Perhaps this will come as a hint to some US auto makers to produce cars that will be a better value in the long run.
