Electric Cars Sizzle in California
It seems as if everyone is anxiously awaiting the arrival of electric cars, and in all of the commotion, I cannot help but think back to my youth when I would watch the Jetsons fly around on my television screen and then wonder, “Is that going to be the next step after electric cars become ‘the thing’?”
Who knows.
What we do know is that the San Francisco Bay Area is already super charged and ready for a carbon-free future. In the Bay Area alone, Tesla Motors has already sold 150 electric Roadsters, which are priced at $109k . According to an article published by the NY Times in February, San Francisco is vying to become a hub for electric cars, and it seems to be well on its way thanks to a high concentration of Silicon Valley electric car startup companies as well as other companies like Google and Pacific Gas.
But what about knowing where you can stop to re-charge? The NY Times article addresses this issue by stating:
In late 2008, Better Place and the mayors of the Oakland, San Jose and San Francisco announced that the company would build a $1 billion charging network throughout the Bay Area. But unlike Better Place’s rollout of networks in Israel and Denmark, where the company only has to deal with one government and one utility, the emerging Bay Area market features many players interested in getting into the charging game.
