Ford Attempting to Sell Volvo

If you didn’t know it already, Ford Motor Company is currently attempting to sell the foreign auto maker Volvo.  Perhaps it might come as a surprise that Volvo is owned by Ford let alone that they are trying to sell them.  Ford is looking to shed some corporate weight and become a leaner, better functioning version of it’s current self, a big part of this plan seems to be unloading large corporate assets like Volvo.

Ford once owned famed auto maker Jaguar but also unloaded them, at a loss if I remember correctly, to India’s Tata motors.  Again this loss of revenue from an ownership deal may be coming down the pipes for Ford as bloomberg.com is reporting:

Ford Motor Co. may get $1 billion to $2 billion for its Volvo Cars unit, less than a third of what it paid 10 years ago, as it conducts sale talks with more than three bidders, a person familiar with the discussions said. “

You might be wondering why Ford is trying to sell a brand with a good reputation when the reputation of Ford itself in terms of reliability and quality is not all that great.  The answer to the question just raised is that Ford needs quick cash to even out it’s balance sheet.  This is just a buyers market and if you are in that market I know of a good auto maker you might be interested in.
