Gripe of the Week: People Who Drive WAY Too Fast
When I first got my driver’s license, I was a glorified speed demon. I couldn’t wait to get out of the driveway and tear down the streets of the hometown where I lived in New York. Looking back on it all, I was pretty reckless and it’s still a wonder how I never once received a citation from a police officer or was pulled over. However, only a few years later, I no longer feel the need for speed.
Thanks, high gas prices.
Needless to say, I am thankful for the recent change over. Since I’ve begun to drive slower the speed limit, things have been significantly better for me. For starters, I’m not running to the gas station every two seconds to fill up my gas tank, and in addition to that, I’ve noticed that my road rage has mysteriously disappeared. To top it off, I’ve developed into a much safer driver by employing some of the other driving habits that put me a cut above the rest of the other reckless drivers out there (of which there are many!).
Being responsible while behind the wheel is both incredibly easy to achieve as well as incredibly easy to ignore. In driver’s education classes, they teach you to leave a safe stopping distance between you and the car in front of you, but honestly- how many of us practice this on a daily basis. If you find that you are a speed demon, maybe it’s time to take a hard look at why. You would be doing yourself (as well as others around you) a great service if you would just slow it down a bit.
