Ike…Kicking Your Butt at the Pumps

Is it the 1970s again? Remember when Jimmy Carter (for those of you too young to remember, Jimmy Carter was the biggest “do nothing” president, perhaps ever) was stupid enough to meddle with the gas prices…and they doubled? Well we have a new Jimmy Carter, lets call him “Ike.” No, not Dwight D. Eisenhower, but hurricane Ike. Despite the fact that Ike is hitting the Houston area pretty hard, if you drove to the pumps today you will have noticed a quite substantial increase in gas prices since the time you went to bed last night. For example, yesterday gas was around $3.61 per gallon in my neck of the woods, today I bought it for $4.17 per gallon.

According to Dailyhome.com, Clay Ingram of AAA of Birmingham said:

“The worst thing is the panic. People think there is a shortage, but there isn’t right now. There will be plenty of gas available over all, but panic buying actually does lower the supply, and drive prices up. There’s no need for that.”

Oil is a touchy subject. Inflation is sky high, the dollar is worthless, the government owns our mortgage companies and soon enough our car companies, and we can’t afford to fill up on gas because we are panic stricken. My advice, since we are now The Communist Republic of the United States, put your money in gas, Chinese and Indian companies, and get out of dodge. Look for somewhere nice, maybe on the water with a two car garage. I’m just saying…we are on a sinking ship unless something pretty dramatic happens, but as long as the government keeps meddling in our money, we are going to be out of luck.
