Just the Facts, Please…What Auto Dealers Aren’t Telling You

According to a recent news story printed on cbs2.com, auto dealers may not be disclosing everything that they can when it comes to recalled car issues. With the recent attention that has been paid to car manufacturer, Toyota, many consumers are starting to wonder whether or not there are other vehicles out there that have recall issues. More than this, when they are interested in purchasing a vehicle (new or used), will the salespeople be honest with them about any problems with recalls?

It doesn’t seem likely.

CBS 2 went undercover to investigate the issue with recalls and were shocked to learn that not all sales people were giving interested car buyers the facts surrounding recent recalls. Take, for example, the 2008 Toyota Sequoia. The Sequoia has been on a recall list for problems with its accelerator. While it is not illegal to sell it, when CBS 2 investigators asked a car sales person whether or not the Sequoia had any problems or recalls associated with it, the sales person willingly and knowingly lied to the buyer, claiming that he didn’t think it was on any recall list and that it didn’t have any problems.

While this may not seem like such a huge deal to some people, it still raises a few eyebrows. After all, who can we trust when it comes to knowing which cars are the best ones to buy? The answer is: ourselves. Do your research before you head to the dealership, this way you will know if and/or when a car salesperson is withholding information or bending the truth a bit.
