Man Receives 4-Yr Prison Sentence for Drunk Driving
According to an article published in DL-Online, Jared West Harvey, a 26-year-old guy from Fargo, North Dakota was sentenced to almost four years in prison for drunk driving.
Finally, some justice?
Harvey was charged with two felony counts of first-degree DWI for driving with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .18 percent. According to court documents, on May 15, 2009, police received a report of a Dodge Durango driving erratically. When officers responded to the call, they found the Durango in question and discovered that it was speeding as well as visibly swerving in and out of different lanes.
So, why the “lengthy” jail time? As it turns out, this isn’t Harvey’s first run-in with the law. Back in 2007, he was convicted with a felony criminal vehicular operation charge, and in both 2002 and 2006, Harvey was also charged with DWI-related offenses.
But the bigger question remains: “What is going to learn from all of this by being thrown in jail?” Obviously, this guy knows what he is doing (for lack of a better word). Racking up felony vehicular charges isn’t just something that you go to school to learn how to do. That being said, perhaps Harvey’s first trip shouldn’t necessarily be to a prison but to an AA meeting instead? If they offer alcoholic counseling while in prison, then that’s even better.
What do you think? Is Harvey’s prison sentencing fair?

My daughter was the one he had the accident with in 2007. Thank God she kept up with all the shenanigans he tried to do to avoid that charge. He had his attorney with him in the emergency room when they arrived at the hospital in the ambulance. He needs to go away and not ever be allow in a vehicle again. My daughter was lucky. After flipping her vehicle over she had minor injuries. This guy will never learn.
Definitely, this guy caused the accident that could have killed my daughter. He blew through two stop/yield signs on Highway 10 right in front of her. She broadsided his F150 at 65 miles per hour. Thank God for old Luminas and 5 star crash ratings. She walked away, but we spent the next 18 months going to court appearances to be sure this guy didn’t get off scott free. He didn’t get much, but we did get our day(s) in court and it counted in the sentencing of this conviction. He was supposed to go to treatment as part of his sentence, that seems to have worked out real well….Lock him up longer, save some lives.
