“No Job, No Problem” Says Hyundai

How bad are things in the economy right now?  Well, when you start to hear offers like “if you lose your job you can return it,” I think that serves as a pretty good indicator.  In fact, this is the new policy of automovitve manufacturer Hyundai.  Since car sales have been sluggish, to say the least, Hyundai is hoping that a “risk free” approach to car buying will appeal to those who might be a bit anxious to sign the dotted line.  According to MSNBC the plan is expected to last all of the new year:

“The program is available for one year on all remaining 2008 and new 2009 models.

Since every new customer qualifies, Hyundai hopes it’ll convince people to sign on the dotted line.

Tom Hollett says “they’re looking for a good product and a good warranty, and something that gives them good piece of mind that the product they own at a fair payment is going to deliver.”

It will be very interesting to see how this effects Hyundai’s sales, if at all.  With people genuinely concerned about the prospect of losing their job will Hyundai’s plan make people more anxious to buy, or will the program just act as a reminder that everything is not okay?  Hyundai has an up and coming niche in the car market so perhaps this could be their big break.  Selling cars while others tread water.
