Pricey Hybrid? 5 Fuel Efficient Cars That Keep $$ In Your Bank Account

For many Americans who were disgusted, shocked and perhaps angered over the hike in gasoline prices over the last couple of years, the emergence of the futuristic hybrid vehicles seemed to be like a godsend. However, no one said that hybrid vehicles would be cheap. And for those who weren’t necessarily looking to save the environment so much as they were trying to save their bank accounts, hybrids still have a ways to go. So, now the question becomes: Can I buy a fuel efficient car that is comparable to a hybrid in terms of the money that I will save overall?

Yes. Yes, you can.

According to Elisabeth Leamy at ABC News, consumers don’t have to settle for a hybrid in order to reap the savings. She cites the example of the Toyota Prius. Sure, the base model costs $23k, but once you put a couple of small features on it, suddenly you’re facing a $30k bill. But according to Brian Moody of Edmunds.com, the following five vehicles are just five great examples of how you can keep a little extra money in your bank account and still save money at the gas pump:

  1. 2011 Ford Fiesta
  2. 2010 Kia Forte EX
  3. 2010 Mini Cooper
  4. 2010 Chevrolet Equinox LS
  5. 2010 Volkswagen Golf TDI

  1. Nice to see that the Fiesta is back. My cousin got a 1991 Fiesta about 3 years ago to save on rising gas costs.
