You all know I love my job. I get plenty of time to think about a lot of different things during these long road trips. But even for a car shipping guy like me who gets to see the four corners of the world from a truck cab, there are days when I wonder “What if?” You might not have heard, but they’re going to be moving the Space Shuttle to Los Angeles next week. Back when I was growing up, every kid wanted to be either a baseball player or an astronaut. I was trying to figure out a way to do both. My fifth grade science teacher had to explain to me that there is no gravity on the moon, so you wouldn’t be able to play much baseball.
Car Shipping versus Space Shuttle Shipping
When I read about the Space Shuttle, it got me thinking how fun it would be to haul that thing across the country. Okay, so maybe I missed my shot at being an astronaut, and I don’t suppose my odds were ever very good in the first place. I’m just picturing what it would be like to have everybody on the highway honking and pointing from Cape Canaveral to Los Angeles.
I can’t imagine it being anything but fun. Plus, I’d finally get to see my cousin out that way. I guess it wouldn’t work to use a car transport truck to haul a spacecraft, though. I can imagine those NASA people getting a bit paranoid about something happening to it.
From Car Shipper to Shuttle Hauler
Who knows? Maybe space travel is closer than we think. Maybe in ten years I’ll be hauling cars through the asteroid belt. I have a tendency to let my imagination run away with me. Like I said, shipping a car across the country gives you a lot of time to think…
