Staycations Revisited

Just because the gas prices have settled back down from “Ridiculously expensive” to “reasonably expensive” doesn’t mean that Americans are jumping into the first SUV they see and heading for Yosemite. In fact, it seems that this gas crisis/economic crisis has really brought out the creativity in people, and this is where we take the time out to revisit the idea of ’staycations’ as a staple of the American travel diet.

Staycations are great for a number of reasons.  First, they allow you to get to know the area you live in better.  Even if you’ve lived somewhere your entire life, this doesn’t mean that you can’t re-discover something right in your own backyard (literally).  From dining out at restaurants to camping out with the kids in your backyard, there are lots of fun and creative ways to make staycations work.

Another bonus of staycations (and perhaps the main reason for many Americans right now) is the fact that you are saving your car from the wear-and-tear that comes with driving from state to state.  If you weren’t planning on driving anyway, then you may be saving yourself from having to pay for a plane ticket.  Whatever you do, keep staycations on your list of things to do because in the end, it can be an equally fun bonding experience for you and your family.
