The Best Car/Technology News I Have Heard in Years
This is the car news I have been waiting for. Audi is working on technology along with their home city of Ingolstadt, Germany to do something that will bring an almost sexual gratification to every single driver on the face of the earth who hears about it: Never having to stop at a traffic light again. You read it right, Audi is working on a system that involves intelligent traffic lights that omit a signal to vehicles with the proper on board computer. The signal tells the computer how far away the traffic signal is and how long until it will change. The computer then translates that equation into a driving speed for you to travel. The result is you coasting through a green light.
The first problem with the system might however be…you. You ruin everything Mr. or Mrs. Inconsiderate/ annoying driver. Here’s why according to reviews.cnet.com:
There are only two problems we can see with the system. The first is that it relies on drivers to actually follow the suggested speed in order to make the light. It’s hard enough to get most drivers to follow the posted speed limit. However, with the incentive of higher fuel economy and quicker trips, perhaps they’ll follow the computer’s guidelines.
My first thought was something along these lines. Would the system really work if the light is already backed up, will it work if you have speeders rushing to the light? Well, if this technology does go mainstream I can only hope that people don’t ignore it.
