To Infiniti…and Beyond!

Infiniti has released new photos of its G37 convertible.  The car is set to debut later this year in LA, but Infiniti has decided to post pictures in advance of this official release.  The G37 is currently available as a coup with a base price around $35-36,000.  The car looks great as a converable.  Its natural sporty lines translate remarkably well, giving it the look of a sleak roadster.

Often times convertibles look like a normal car with the top cut off.  Something lacks in their estetics.  I think the Chrysler Sebring is a great example of this.  The Sebring reminds me of a Dodge Stratus that has been decapitated by a low lying tree.  The G37 has avoided this design pitfall and looks entirly natural in its new state.

Car and Driver offers the following remarks about the new G37:

The G37 convertible uses a three-piece retractable hardtop, the better to compete with the BMW 3-series convertible, which employs a similar setup. If anything, the G’s roof should make for better top-up structural rigidity versus a cloth top. Now that the Infiniti G is offered in sedan, coupe, and convertible models, it’s an even closer competitor to the benchmark 3-series

It looks like Infiniti may have a winner on its hands with this redesign.  The car has a V6, plenty of horsepower, and looks like a lot of fun.  With the market undoubtedly shifting towards smaller cars, Infiniti may have been looking to market the G37 convertible as a unique, attractive option for those looking to trade the suv for something a little smaller if no more practicle.
