4 Ways to Get Better Fuel Economy
The folks over at Car Talk offered some great tips on how to get better fuel economy, which I’ve listed below:
- Alternative Transportation- For some of us, this is easier said than done because we don’t want to give up our independence and privacy that comes with owning and driving your own car. However, once you start to notice that your bank account is suffering, you’ll make the change. Not only this, but it will get you out and exercising more!
- Choose a More Fuel Efficient Vehicle- For some of us, it may be too late to make this decision (at least not until we’ve paid off our first mistake), but keep it in mind the second or third time around.
- Carpool vs. Public Transportation- In many workplaces, someone will organize a carpool. If they haven’t done it already, you can certainly start one yourself. Carpools are great in situations like that because if you find out that two of your co-workers live right near you, why shouldn’t you get together and take turns driving to work a few times each during the week?
- Join a Car Co-op- Car co-ops have been around for quite some time in Europe. The way it works is that members share a fleet of vehicles and pay a monthly fee. The organization will then take care of all the maintenance and repairs on the fleet so that you’ll never have to worry about bringing the car in for troubles. If you drive 10,000 miles per year or less, than a car co-op may make sense.
