History of Hyundai

The Hyundai Group was founded, originally, as a construction company several decades before they began to manufacture Ford models overseas.  In 1967, this family owned business expanded to include Hyundai Motor Company and embarked on an eight year experience experiment by manufacturing Ford cars under contract.  Hyundai unveiled its first model, called the Pony, to the Korean market in 1974.  This vehicle was officially made available for sale early in 1976.  In 1978, Hyundai introduces the first 6-cylinder “western” vehicle, the Granada.

With a wide variety of interests and divisions, The Hyundai Group is one of the largest and most powerful family-owned businesses in the world.  In 1973, The Hyundai Group held 25 companies, including 10 car design companies in Japan and Italy, four firms in both Japan and the United States for stamping industrial equipment, and 5 forging and casting plants in the United Kingdom and Germany.  They produced engines at two plants in Japan and the U.K., and held 5 interests in the United States and Great Britain that produced integrated and components.

While the company expanded the car manufacturing branch of their operations, they continued to operate in several other fields, including commercial construction, shipbuilding, offshore engineering, and other interests.  In 1977, The Hyundai Group acquired Gukil Securities and founded Hyundai Securities in their own right.  By 1980, the Hyundai Group had developed more models and established a manufacturing plant in Canada.

Currently, Hyundai is a powerhouse in the automotive industry, creating a line of vehicles that are both economical and safe.  According to Wall Street 24/7, Hyundai holds the title of the most successful car manufacturer in the U.S., somehow managing to sell new cars to people living in an economy that is less than perfect. Still, the automotive arm of the huge company is only a small fraction of the overall operation.

Hyundai  Accent

The Hyundai Accent was first introduced in 1996 as the Hyundai Excel, and in some foreign markets has been renamed the Verna, however most markets still use the name, Accent.  It is a subcompact design and the current model retails for a suggested price starting at $14, 195.  The car gets a whopping 40 mpg.  The exterior of the current model offers fluid lines and chiseled curves seen on some more expensive vehicles.  It is available in a traditional 4-door model, as well as a 5-door model that incorporates a convenient hatchback.

The newest Accent has been re engineered with a 1.6L Gamma GDI 4-cylinder engine that delivers 138 horsepower—a significant increase over previous models. Equipped with SHIFTRONIC®, the accent can convert from a 6-speed automatic to a 6-speed manual transmission. Even so, an internal eco-control system will keep fuel efficiency at a level higher than others in its class.

Hyundai Elantra

The Hyundai Elantra is a compact car with a 4-cylinder 1.8L engine.  It also features Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing which helps to lower emission and better fuel economy. The Elantra focuses quite a bit on safety, as well as comfort and economy.  With 6 airbags located in the dash, in the driver and passenger doors and along the interior walls, the Elantra boasts some of the best in the business.  It also features an anti-lock braking system, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, a traction control system, and electronic stability control.  It also has dual rear-door impact beams.

The exterior styling of the Elantra offers several features one might expect to find on more expensive vehicles.  Wrap around headlights and available fog lights are just the beginning.  The Elantra also features a “key proximity” feature.  This feature detects the key fob (even if the keys are in your pocket instead of your hand).  By pressing a button on the door handle once the fob has been detected, one can enter the vehicle and use the push-button start without ever having to dig out the keys.

Hyundai Velostar

The new Hyundai Velostar is a comfortable car with a sporty attitude.  Available in a 3-door configuration, it comes with a 1.6L gasoline direct engine and a 6-speed manual transmission, it delivers power while providing up to 40 mpg highway.  If you prefer an automatic transmission, the Hyundai Velostar offers it as an option/upgrade.

The interior of the Hyundai Velostar has been signed with a sportbike attitude.  It features a touchscreen control system in the dash and incorporates Blue Link™ complete with Location Sharing, Voice Text Messaging, and an advanced voice recognition system so you can search for directions and music in a safe and convenient environment.  Also available as an upgrade is the rear-camera that will display the view behind the Velostar on the screen display as you are backing up.

The safety features available in the Velostar include Blue Link™ with Automatic Collision Notification and assistance which can notify authorities when the airbags have deployed and send help to your location.  To help prevent accidents, the Velostar comes with stability control and other safety features.

Hyundai Sonata/Sonata Hybrid

The Hyundai Sonata is a sporty sedan with two options for power.  Choose between the 2.4L GDI or the 274 hp 2.0T Turbo under the hood, without sacrificing miles per gallon. The Turbo still delivers a cool 34 mpg on average.  The exterior of this family sedan boasts a special paint that is designed to reduce corrosion from salt and help eliminate rust.  The trunk is a comfortable 16.4 cubic feet.

The Sonata comes in the standard, SE, and Limited varieties.  In the SE class, you can expect a few special features.  For instance, the SE design incorporates dual exhaust and paddle shifters in a leather-wrapped steering wheel to give the driver more control.   The windows are intentionally large to reduce blind spots. Large windows are not the only safety features.  The Sonata has been awarded the “Top Safety Pick” from IIHS, partly because of six airbags, 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, front and rear crumple zones and a host of additional safety features.  The models begin at approximately $20,000, while the hybrid will set you back an additional $5K or so.

Hyundai Tucson

The Hyundai Tucson is a CUV with many available features.  From a performance standpoint, the Hyundai Tucson comes with either a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that gets up to 31 mpg or you can opt for the GLS & Limited model which has a 2.4L Theta with CVVT.  The latter option amps up to 176 horsepower while still delivering an impressive 32 mpg.  All models have standard Hillstart Assist Control and Downhill Brake Control to help maintain control when starting from a stationary position on a upward incline and maintain control on steep downgrades.

From a safety standpoint, the Tucson offers Electronic Stability Control and a Traction Control System that work together to keep the vehicle in control when facing hazardous or difficult road conditions.  Also included are Active Head Restraints to help prevent whiplash in the event of a collision and six airbags. The interior and exterior of the Hyundai Tucson is designed for sleek comfort and fun with a panoramic sunroof that stretches from the front seats all the way to the back.  In addition to this feature, the doors were designed to make entering and exiting the vehicle easier for the extended family members.

Hyundai Santa Fe

The Hyundai Santa Fe was designed for make driving a pleasure.  This vehicle features a one-touch power tilt-and-slide sunroof with a sliding shade, temperature controls split for front passengers, XM Satellite Radio with ports for an iPod/USB and other auxiliaries.  The manufacturer included thoughts of safety by making the controls for these devices of generous size, with adequate lighting in positions higher on the dash board for easy visibility and control. The Santa Fe also includes steering-wheel-mounted controls a Bluetooth hands-free phone system. This Crossover Utility Vehicle is also available in a Special Edition (SE) and Limited model.  The SE adds features like combination leather-cloth seats, 18-inch alloy wheels and a rear spoiler with center-mounted LED brake lights.

Hyundai Genesis Coupe/Genesis

The Genesis models have a push start ignition and feature key proximity, which allows the driver to unlock and open the door with the push of a button, provided the key is within a certain distance from the locking mechanism. For safety, the Genesis Coupe and Genesis Sedans offer Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control that work together to help prevent accidents.

In addition to the standard safety features like nine airbags, reinforced unibody frame, Electronic Stability Control and Anti-Lock Brakes, the Hyundai Equus also has Smart Cruise Control.  Operating like regular cruise control, Smart Cruise Control adds a feature that allows the driver to select a specific distance between the Equus and the vehicle in front.  When that distance closes, the Smart Cruise Control automatically slows down until the proper distance is reestablished. Another great feature of the Equus is the valet service the owners will enjoy.  Time for an oil change?  The Hyundai service center will pick up and deliver your vehicle. Even the  test drive begins and ends at your location instead of the dealership.

Auto Transport SAVE Money vs. Driving

"
National Transport did a great job. The driver was timely, called several times both before pick-up and prior to delivery to inform me of his status. Completing the paperwork took a few minutes. I would recommend National Transport and plan to use them again.

The staff at National Transport were extremely friendly, helpful, and accommodating, and the pick up and delivery went without a hitch. The same goes for the drivers.
