History of Jeep

Originally founded with creating military off-road vehicles in 1941, Jeep has become an all American household name and one of the most recognizable automotive brands in the world. When the first Willys Overland Jeeps were produced in 1941, there was nothing like it. It was the first off-road  four wheel drive sport utility vehicle ever and proved to be an invaluable addition to the United States war machine during World War II. Since it's  popular debut so many years ago, Jeep has transformed in to a purveyor of not only utilitarian transport, but as full on luxury automotive brand complete with a full line of vehicles ranging from cross-over SUVs such as the recently released Jeep Patriot to the rough and resilient off-road dynamo, the Jeep Wrangler.

The Jeep has always been a symbol of freedom and American ingenuity and although there have been many pretenders to the throne from companies worldwide, there still has yet to be an equal match to the four wheel drive capabilities of the brand's flagship Wrangler model.

Over the years, Jeep has gone through many transformations being bought and sold to and from automotive companies such as Renault, AMC and finally Chrysler, but the fact remains that there has always been a demand for these iconic vehicles. Now, the most popular models are the Jeep Grand Cherokee and four-door Wrangler due to their spacious design and ample interior and seating room. They are a popular choice for many families due to their exemplary safety records and ability to traverse rough terrain such as snow with their highly capable all wheel drive technology that kicks in automatically without needing to manually switch to four wheel drive mode. Since Chrysler took the brand over, there a has been a real resurgence of the brand and it doesn't look like the Jeep will be going anywhere any time soon.

Jeep Compass

The Jeep Compass was first introduced during the 2007 model year along with the Jeep Patriot as the first cross-over SUVs the brand has ever offered. Considered an entry level SUV, the Jeep Compass is offered at a price point just below that of the more iconic Jeep Wrangler Model. Upon its release, the Compass did not receive the “Trail Rated” badge that it's Grand Cherokee, Commander and Wrangler counterparts have, but as of 2011, the Compass now carries this distinction. The Compass is now “Trail Rated” due to its traction, ground clearance, maneuverability, articulation, and water fording.

The vehicle features a 2.4 liter GEMA I4 gasoline engine, a continuously variable transmission and an electronically controlled all wheel drive system that all add up to a very smooth and efficient handling on the road. There are also diesel and two wheel drive variations available, but strictly for the Australian and European Markets.

Jeep Patriot

The Jeep Patriot first hit the scene during the 2007 model year, and shares the same Daimler Chrysler/Mitsubishi GS platform as the Jeep Compass and Dodge Caliber. This traditional four-door Jeep wagon resembles it's Cherokee predecessor which was discontinued in the U.S. in 2001. It's design makes it a sporty cross-over SUV, but what sets it apart from competitors like the Pontiac Vibe is its ability to handle rough terrain and bad weather.

Another great attribute of the Jeep Patriot is it's price. In comparison with all other SUVs on the market, the Patriot is the least expensive one available in North America and one of the lowest priced SUVs worldwide to date. The vehicle features a 2.4 GEMA I4 engine, a continuously variable transmission, all-wheel drive and comes in a five speed manual as well. The Patriot also is considered “Trail Rated” due its exemplary traction, ground clearance, maneuverability, articulation and water fording.

Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep Grand Cherokee has been a major fixture in the Jeep lineup since 1992 and is now the second most popular model behind the Jeep Wrangler. Originally designed to be a successor for the Cherokee model, the Grand Cherokee has far surpassed the expectations of the Daimler Chrysler and has become a household name all across North America. This vehicle carries the Distinction of being listed as the Consumer's Digest Best Buy for 2011, the Safest SUV in America by MSN Autos and Truck of the year by The Detroit News. The 2011 model features a choice of a 3.6 liter V6, and 3.0 L Diesel V6 or two HEMI engines.

The Grand Cherokee even offers three distinctive four-wheel drive options to chose from: Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II. For those fans of high-performance SUVs, Jeep also offers an special edition SRT-8 version of the vehicle that features a 6.4 liter HEMI V8 engine that delivers increased torque and top speeds.

Jeep Wrangler

Since the inception of the Jeep Brand, the Jeep Wrangler has been the flagship model due to its sporty design and unmatched off-roading capabilities. The Wrangler is a direct descendant of the 1941 Willys-Overlander, but has evolved immensely since it was first used as a military transport vehicle for rough terrain situations. The most recent versions still embody the free spirit of the model by preserving the convertible options and the ever capable four-wheel drive functionality, but in 2007 Jeep decided to offer the vehicle in a never before offered four door version of the vehicle. This new four door option has much more to offer than just a few additional doors. This newly modified version features much more interior room than its predecessor as well as an extended interlocking hard convertible top.

The new Wrangler also offers new high tech features such as a Bluetooth Uconnect feature and the My Gig music system. The vehicle also boasts a 3.8 liter EGH V6 engine and a choice of a four-speed Ultradrive automatic or six-speed Chrysler manual transmission.

Jeep Liberty

The Jeep Liberty is the perfect mixture of comfort, road worthiness and off highway capability for a compact SUV. Since its introduction to the market, the Liberty has seen two generations of design an solid base of loyal customers. The vehicle is offered in both two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive and comes in three trim levels: Sport, Limited and the 2012  Jet Edition. The vehicles come with a standard powertrain that includes a 3.7 liter V6 engine and a four-speed automatic transmission. Some great standard features that come in the Jeep Liberty are the electronic stability control, all-speed traction control and electronic roll mitigation. The newly offered Jet Edition offers a great deal of high end features such as the SkySlider sunroof system that is a full length open canvas sunroof that can be opened to any position between open and closed and a multimedia My Gig system that comes complete with a 30 GB hard drive and navigation system.
