History of Land Rover
Land Rover began making all-terrain, heavy-duty vehicles long before it was fashionable. These vehicles were made to withstand arduous and unforgiving territory to get personnel and equipment into the back country of some of the most inhospitable places on earth. They began doing this in 1948. Some of the vehicles than came off the assembly line in 1948 are still operating in the very climates they were designed to overcome, today.
Throughout Land Rover’s history, they have kept the needs of those who purchase their vehicles in the front of their design process. During the 1950s and 1960s, Land Rover continued to innovate and refine their vehicles for more comfort and better stability. Land Rover lead the emerging 4-wheel-drive market and many well-known organizations counted on them to provide the equipment they needed to do their jobs. For instance, the Land Rover was the vehicle of choice for the Born Free Foundation as well as the Royal Geographical Society.
By the 1970s, Land Rover found they needed their noted vehicle to be in a class by itself and the Range Rover was born. An overnight success, the Range Rover incorporated all of the “needs” of the Land Rover with the “desires” of the everyday road-going public. Not only will a Range Rover get you where you need to go through some of the roughest terrain there is, but it will get you there in style. Land Rover still creates workhorses, however, for those organizations that put less stock in comfort and more stock in results.
Since the beginning, Land Rover and Range Rover have continued to implement new ideas, new innovations and modern technologies. Recently, they have instituted initiatives such as e_Terrain Technologies which improves the environmental performance of their vehicles by reducing CO2 emissions that contribute to the climate crisis. They have also begun to practice Sustainable Manufacturing programs to offset CO2 emissions.
Land Rover LR4
The Land Rover LR4 has been improved to include all of the modern features you could want in a luxury 4-wheel drive. For instance, the LR4 V8 has Bluetooth® Connectivity, command driving position, seat height and lumbar adjustments for the driver, a leather steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control and an Alpine roof with sun blinds and a power tilt-and-slide sunroof in the front.
The LR4 is no wimp on the open road, either. With a 5.0 V8 engine and 6-speed ZF automatic transmission, you have the option of taking control. CommandShift® give you the power to manually shift when the situation, or your mood, requires it.
Safety is always a concern when dealing with off-road vehicles, of course. The LR4 takes advantage of the latest research and technology to give you the safety you need. For instance, the LR4 has Electronic Brake Assist, an Electronic Parking Brake, and 6 airbags, including side-curtain and side-thorax airbags. The occupant detection system prevents unnecessary airbags from deploying in specific situations which can save you money on repair bills should the unfortunate event of an accident occur. The four-channel all-terrain anti-lock brakes on the LR4 have all-round ventilated disc brakes for heavy driving.
Land Rover Range Rover
The Range Rover is the Land Rovers original luxury 4-wheel drive created to add comfort to those who drive down their own unique paths in life. The newest models offer luxury and comfort like never before, adding new technology for convenience and safety. The interior of the Range Rover is designed to thrill and excite even the most humble driver. The dash board, for instance, is actually a 12.3 inch Thin Film Transistor (TFT) LED Virtual display. Powered and heated front seats offer driver memory and have an easy entry/exit function that lowers and moves back to make it easier to get in and out of the truck. Even the leather steering wheel with all of the buttons, bells and whistles you need at your fingertips is heated.
The current model Range Rover offers a 5.0L V8 engine with 25 percent more power and 20 percent more torque than the previous generation. It has can reach top speeds of 130 miles per hour (not that you would ever drive that fast, right?) and goes from 0-60 mph is just 7.2 seconds. The safety features of the new Range Rover include airbags, of course, but also include an integrated whiplash reduction system, so you can enjoy your Range Rover on and off-road with more confidence.
Land Rover Range Rover Sport
The Range Rover Sport might seem like the Range Rover’s “city cousin” but that’s only because she is so much more sophisticated. The Range Rover Sport offers greater levels of comfort and technology including standard seats in refined leather, adjustable memory for the driver, and heated, power-fold side mirrors. The center console touch screen incorporates a wide-angled image behind the vehicle for backing up more easily. You can even add a touch of ambiance with integrated “mood” lighting for the interior cabin. The interior trim is available in straight grain walnut or Anigre wood veneer. Finally, you can start your Range Rover Sport with the simple push of a button. The exterior of the new Range Rover Sport, however, has been redesigned to add more attitude with a rear roof-mounted spoiler, lower-to-the-road, more modern profile.
Some of the safety features that come standard with a Range Rover Sport include Dynamic Stability Control which monitors wheel speed and the angle of turns to make cornering safer. The lower profile also helps ease this burden by lowering the center of gravity. Anti-lock Brakes featuring Range Rover’s all-terrain, anti-lock braking included, as well. A total of six airbags help keep occupants safe, while the command driving position offers better views for the driver to keep abreast of what is happening outside the vehicle to better avoid troubling situations.
Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
The Range Rover Evoque is available in three varieties: Pure, Prestige, and Dynamic. The Pure is the simplest form of the Range Rover Evoque, while the Prestige offers more luxury and the Dynamic is a sportier take on design and features. All three models are the most sustainable and ecologically friendly of the Range Rover family.
Some of the options available depending upon the class you choose are front parking aids, rear parking aids (via rear camera including hitching guidance.) Interior options include intuitive technology to increase comfort and convenience. Voice Control® and two separate multi-color displays are some of the advanced features. The central 8-inch Touch-screen, a signature of the Range Rover, is available to control communication and entertainment while the second, 5-inch screen is directly in front of the driver. The Range Rover Evoque comes standard with an automatic 4WD 2.0L gasoline engine. The transmission is a six-speed and you can expect up to 20 percent less CO2 emissions.
